June 14, 2013 Pulled out of Goldfield RV Park around 9a & took I 25 north through Denver right by Mile Stadium to
I 76 to Canfield City Park, Fort Morgan, CO. got here around noon. This is a "FREE" camping spot with just electric,
can't run AC.
June 13, 2013 Drove our Geo Tracker up Pikes Peak. Much better clear views. We then went to the Garden of the Gods
for a great colorful drive seeing all the red rock formations. Next was Seven Falls. 224 steps to the top & Charles climbed
to the top. We left here & took North Cheyenne Cannon Drive & it came to a dead end. We turned around & on the
way back we stopped at Helen Hunt Falls. Made for a long day.
June 12, 2013 We left Oakley, KS & ended up at Goldfied RV park west of Colorado Springs, CO. Got reservations for
the 2:40p Cog Train ride to the top of Pikes Peak. $75 cost. The ride was mostly closed in because of the trees. Got above
the timberline & great views.
June 11, 2013 We left Walmart Parking lot in Paola, KS around 9a. Had a bad day driving. First thing the air bags wouldn't
inflate. Finally they inflated. The wind was really, really strong from the southwest. Had to drive in 5th instead of 6th
so I didn't have to have the pedal to the metal.
We are now in Oakley, KS with electric in not much of a RV park. It got up to 108 degrees so the wind felt like a furnace
blast.
We went into town for supper, chicken strips & french fries.
June 10, 2013 Coralie's Cousins, Loretta and Barbara and their spouses joined us at Miola Lake just outside
of Paola, KS for the afternoon. We visited until around 4p. After they left we packed up the coach and moved to Walmart for
the night.
We went into Burger King for some supper and who was there, Coarlie's cousins. They were just finished eating. After
eating out meal, we went into Walmart and bought some supplies.
It got to 91 degrees today. Just right for tank tops, shorts and sandals.
June 9, 2013 Went to Mass & then met the Prothe's at Applebees for "DINNER", not lunch, at 1p. Our waitress Crystal
gave us excellent service. We then went to the Prothe home for a visit. Coralie had known Carlene Prothe since first grade
but had lost contact. A few years ago Coralie located Carlene through a cousin. We visit with them each time we are in the
Paola area. We always enjoy our visits.
June 8, 2013 Coralie's Class of 1953 gathered for a meal at K&M BBQ in Springhill KS. 11 of the class showed. There
were about 20 of us there counting spouses. We then went to the Civic Center for the annual alumni get together. There were
about 50 present. A presentation of the history of Springhill was given & was interesting. More food which was homemade.
I(Charles) made a pig of myself & didn't need any supper. They awarded a $500 scholarship to a 2013 graduate. Then took
up a donation for next years scholarship & collected $600. Everyone had a great time.
We then went to visit Del & Pearl Findely for awhile who live in Springhill, KS
June 5, 2013 left Attica, IN around noon & headed for Crawfordsville, IN. Left here around 3p heading for St.
Louis. We ran into rain about 10 miles from the river. The Mississippi river was way out of it's banks. Where we got
fuel at the river they was using a generator as their electric was out. Had to do our credit card the old fashion way where
the put it in a machine & manually slide a roller over the card. We went on to a rest area just west of Wright City, MO
for the night & still lightly raining.
June 6, 2013 Woke up to sunshine & was nice for most part of the day, as we had no rain. Arrived at Miola Lake
outside of Paola, KS around 2p. Got set up in site #3 looking at the lake out our windshield. We are just cooling it
this evening.
May 14, 2013 pulled out of Cerland around noon & got to Attica, IN. The neighbor had mowed our yard & it looked
nice, for which he was thanked. took 3 days to unload the coach & get things in the house.
May 24 Claudia & Charles went to Middle Fork in IL to ride horses. We rode Thursday, Friday & Saturday.
After we got back from our ride Saturday the weather was looking wet & sure enough it started raining. We looked at each
other & hurried up & loaded everything up & headed back to Claudia's place. Got home around 10p.
May 25 2013 Coralie & Charles helped Claudia unload some things. Pulled the mats out of the horse trailer & scrubbed
the floor & mats throughly.
May 27, 2013 Coralie & Charles went out & put the mats back in the horse trailer & got thing a little better
organized.
May 11, 2013 We are at Ceraland just east of Columbus, IN. Arrived here yesterday evening in the rain. got setup &
went to Therese & Jeff's place. Then to El Toreo a mexican resturant for supper.
We got our airbag in Deming & had it installed April 30. We left the Deming Truck Terminal & moved to the Escapee
RV park to wait on the other airbag, it came May 7. Jim, the mechanic, said he couldn't install the airbag until
after 5p. We pulled out of Deming on the 7th at 2p & drove to a rest stop east of Santa Rosa, NM. The next night was at
a rest stop on the Turner Turnpike between OK City, OK & Tulsa. Next stop was Walmart in Sullivan, MO & it rained
most of the night. Our first rain in a long, long time. Drove most of the way through IL before we hit rain & then it
was rain all the way to Ceraland. Called Greene Truck this morning, May 11, about getting the other airbag installed
& he said it would be the end of the week. So will probably be moving on May 13 heading for Attica, IN.
April 22, 2013 Left KOFA KO-OP Resort at 9:57a & drove to NM visitors center & arrived at 6:45p for
the night. The coach was riding rough in the front & checked it out & the passenger side airbag was leaking.
April 23, 2013 Left the visitors center 8:44a & arrived at Deming Truck Terminal at 10a. Jim, mechanic looked
at he airbag & told us he could install a new one. Told him we needed 2 airbags & he agreed. He couldn't find
any locally. We called Spartan chassis. They told us they had the bags. Had 2 sent over night. The bags arrived, wrong airbags.
Called Spartan & said they had the correct airbag but only had 1, told them to send it overnight.
April 24, Called Todd at Spartan & he said they had sent the bags by regular FedEx & the bags wouldn't be here
until Tuesday the 30th.
April 25, Started calling around for another airbag & finally found 1 at Reyco Granning. They informed us they had
plenty. Call Todd at Spartan & told him where he could get the airbag & to talk to Jerry.
April 26, Called Jerry at Reyco Granning & he informed us that Spartan hadn't placed an order as of yet. Called
Todd & told him what Jerry had told us. Todd assured us he ordered 1 yesterday by email.
April 30, Airbag arrived & was installed. Drove to Dream Catcher Escapee RV Park in here Deming, NM for a few days.
May 1, Called Todd Lahr at Spartan Chassis & he told me the other airbag should be in today & he would call.
After his call we will made plans.
April 14, 2013 Wind, Wind, & more Wind. For the last 4 days. Sand is every where inside the coach. We had a scratch
pad laying on the dinette & when you would feel it you could tell it was covered with sand. This morning started
again with strong winds but ended up more like a nice breeze. Haven't been riding the bicycle because of the strong
wind. Went out the other day to ride the bike up to get water, after getting water & riding back noticed the back tire
was about flat. Bought a new heavy tube cost $16. Hope this last better than those Walmart tubes.
April 6, 2013 10 yards of gravel was delivered to our site & spread by Jose Garica with his skid loader.
Art stopped by before it was spread & told me if I had told the people in the park they would have helped me spread
the gravel. Being I'm somewhat on the lazy side I told him I don't do this type of manual labor. I won't have to wade
in mud when I wash the vechicles anymore.
Feb. 18, 2013 Finally Charles has the shed done & it looks very nice. The neighbors are very please with the out
come. Don't hire Charles by the hour, only by the job.
Jan. 11, 2013 Charles started preparing our shed here at KOFA for painting. Bought a Paint Blaster to remove the paint
down to the bare boards. The blaster sure is a help but very hard to operate as it takes more labor than Charles is use to
putting out at this time in his life.
It has been on the cool side mostly in the high 50's to the low 60's. We have had mostly sunny skies which is a great
help. Charles says when he doesn't wear shorts it's to cold. Most of the time it has been long pants weather.
Dec. 2012 We left Attica, IN on the 4th of this month & arrived in Yuma, AZ the 10th. We stopped at Hilco's RV to
have our furnace & awning repaired. We arrived at KOFA where we have our lot on Wednesday afternoon. We were both tired
from the rush out here because of no working furnace, even though we did spend 3 nights in Deming, NM. The
weather has been a little on the cool side for us, mostly in the high 60's to low 70's.
On the 16th we went to Yuma Proving Grounds for a Christmas dinner with our desert friends & had a great time. We
then went to Kripple Kreek, we spent about 10 years of our winters here, & visited with a couple from Canada,
& talked with others while here.
July 20, 2012 We went to Brandenburg, KY for a Samboree then to Louisville, KY for a Good Sam National
Rally. This was in June.
In July Claudia & Charles went to Middlefork, IL horse back riding. On July 4 she
had some tree limbs that needed cutting so Charles took the chainsaw & one of the limbs fell & poked a hole in
the upper part of his foot. Off to the hospital. Took 9 stitches. Saturday got up & his foot was swollen. Back to the
hospital. got some medince & came back home.
July 9 took the coach & went to Elkhart, IN to have a windshield installed & some other minor
things.
July 13 Charles back to the hospital to have the stitches removed. Back to house. At noon with the coach
loaded we headed for Springhill, KS for Coralie's Thoms family reunion.
July 17 came back to Attica our home & haven't done much but take it easy. The foot is doing OK,
but not healed.
March 6, 2012 We are back in Attica, IN. We left KOFA KO-OP 2-22 Yuma, AZ heading for Columbus as Charles's Mother
wasn't doing well. Friday morning we got a call telling us she had passed away. She was 102 years old & had a good life.
We got to Taylorsville, IN late 2-25 after dark & we stayed at Driftwood RV park. The drive was 2300 miles. The funeral
was Tuesday. She was a member of St. Joesph Catholic Church, Four Corners, IN. She was baptized, married & buried here.
My Dad passed away in 1998 & was also a member all his life of this parrish.
We stayed at Taylorsville until 3-3 & then headed to Attica. We were both tired & still have the coach to
unload.
Februrary 20, 2012 Boy a lot of things have happened since I was last on the tripod. We spent a month Boondocking at
Lazy Lane which is close to Yuma Proving Grounds & FREE. On December the 15th we bought our lot & moved in the 19th
so we are not Boondocking, dry camping. The lot we bought is an Escapees members park only. There
are a 154 spots in this private park. We have a swimming pool, a hot tub, which we don't use, & a very nice Clubhouse.
The laundry is close by our spot. There are a lot of activities going on throught most days. Every Sunday at 6p is Icecream
at .75 for a huge dip. Which we don't need but go anyway.
The park belongs to members & has a board of directors which any member can run for at election time. A lot
of the work is done by the members to keep expenses down. There are annual dues which are determined each year.
We are meeting people every day so far & have been playing Mexican train with different people.
For fun there is shuffle board, pool tables, horseshoe, crafts, Bingo & poker & probably some we don't know about
yet.
There is free wifi, but a this time they are having a lot of problems with the system.
November 17, 2011 We left Attica, IN 11-12 & headed for Columbus, IN to visit with our daughter & husband for
the weekend. While here we drove to Seymour & visited with Charles's Mother who is 101 years old. She was in a very talking
mood but we just couldn't understand her & she talked for the 2 hours while we were with her. We pulled out
of Columbus heading for Yuma, AZ. 1st night was spent at Flying J in Matthews, MO & drove in the wind which was pushing
the coach around quite a bit. 2nd night was at Walmart in New Boston, TX & had drove in rain all day. Needless
to say we were tired of this weather. 3rd night was at Walmart in Abilene, TX & we drove in over cast skies
with sun the last 100 miles. It was 34 degrees this morning. We are now at a RV park in Pecos, TX & had a beautiful
day with sunshine in our travels. It can only get better we hope.
August 19, 2011 This week I've been handling hay, about 300 bales, & it's been awhile it was not enjoyable but never
bothered me. Our daughter is just to busy with work to get this type of stuff done.
On the 18th we pulled out of Attica & went to Columbus to celebrate our oldest daughter's birthday. We are parked
at Cerland again. This morning a guy from Troy, OH called & wants to look at our coach. Sure hope he buys. I'm getting
to where the coach is more than I care to handle.
August 10, 2011 We set a record with the tempartures as ti was over 90 degrees for 23 days, the old record was 19 days.
We are in the 80's now & what a relief. We have been busy doing doctor appointments, especially Coralie. She is still
dotoring with that tick bite. I was at the daughter's digging up a wild flower & stepped off the end of a culvert &
have a fairly deep cut under the knee & another spot above the ankle with a knot. Had blood running down my leg into my
sandal. Got to the hydrant & washed everything off. Got home & Coralie doctored it with something. It doesn't hurt
so I guess everything will be great.
Our lawn needs mowing now as we got 1.2" inches of which was badly needed. The farm crops look great now, so the farmers
around here should be happy.
Coralie had cateract surgery on her right eye & it's still not what we think it should be, but the doctor feels it
is doing fine.
July 24, 2011 We pulled out of Attica, IN Wednesday the 20th & drove to Columbus, IN & we are staying at Ceraland,
which belongs to the employess & retirees of Cummins Engine Co. We came down as a friend of Coralie's was going to be
here the 21st & they hadn't see each other for a good while. Our daughter came out & visited us for a couple of afternoons.
Our son-in-law is a computer expert & we were having trouble with our computer & he found we had a viris, even though
we have McAfee. Bummer.
We went to Seymour, IN & visited with a cousin of mine. We all met at Ryan's & I ate way to much, had to get
my moneys worth.
Still having over bearing hot weather. At least while we are here we have AC.
July 12, 2011 started into Lafeyette this morning in the Geo, went about 10' flat tire. Got in the Dodge as Coralie
has an eye appointment. The Dr. said everything looked OK & it was swollen because her natural lens was so thick
that he had to break it up in pieces which caused the swelling.
We bought a pedestal fan for our house to keep cool in this outragous humid & hot weather. The fan sure helps.
July 11, 2011 Coralie had a cateract removed from her right eye this morning & is doing OK. Still tired as we left
the house at 6a. The bacteria from the tick bite seems to be getting better as she says she isn't itching her neck as much.
I went to the Dr. for my shoulders & he says it's brustist & gave me a cortisone in each shoulder. The shoulders
seem to feel better.
It is hot & humid today. I'm was setting with an overhead fan, fan in front, & a fan a the side all blowing
on me. Well not now Coralie just got up & came out to her chair & pointed a fan at her.
We went to Verizone the other day & got a wifi Hotspot which can handle up to 5 computers, appears to be wroking
OK. Will see when our daughter comes & hooks up.
June 19, 2011 It has been a long time since I have written anything as we have been busy with doing things since we got
this house. Like today we planted some flowers, pulled some grass. Busy, busy, busy.
We both had our blood work done & it showed we were in excellent condition, but that has nothing to do with our aches
& pains. Coralie is still fighting that darn tick bite. She is seeing a Lymes Dr. & Lymes has been elimated as the
problem. The Doc thinks she has some kind of bacteria in her system.
I have a lot of pain in my shoulders & will see a Doc Wednesday the 22nd.
We have been getting our share of rain which keeps the lawn mower, mowing the lawn about twice a week with me pushing
the mower. Our lot is only 50'X150' on which sets a house, a small shed, a place to park our coach, plus a driveway running
the full lenght. Still more than I want to mow, just lazy.
Our daughter & I went horse back riding & as we started out the weather was sunny. We rode about 200' &
the clouds rolled in & it started sprinkling. Rode for about another 15 minutes & the rain started coming down harder.
We took the horses into the woods thinking that might help. It started pouring, Needless to say by the time we got back to
the horsetrailer we were soaked on our lower half, we had on raincoats. We had rode a little over 2 miles & had been out
2 hours. Our daughter has a hand held GPS. The next day they told us the trails were closed because they were to muddy & the
campghround was closed. We came home & it rained the next 2 days so we weren't to up set. Better luck next time.
Sept. 17, 2010 We spent 6 days in Ceraland Campground, which is close to Columbus, IN, & visited Therese &
Jeff who live close. Went out the 1st night to Tapatio's for Mexixian food. Then after mass we went to Mark Pi for Chinese
food. Sunday the 12th my Aunt Wilma had a Carr Family reunion which was attended by about 30 of us. We had food a plenty.
This weekend in Attica is the Potawatomi Festival which starts this morning. We plan on going down for awhile.
We are taking care of Claudia's animals as she is at Blackwell Pond Campground, close to Bloomington, IN, with her
horse riding with friends. She plans on spending a week. Talked with her yesterday & she is enjoying the area.
The weather has turned off on the cool side for awhile. Back to long pants for most of the day.
Look for misspelled words can't find spell check.
July 12, 2010 Pulled into Attica, IN after spending 5 days in Columbus, IN at Ceraland Park. The first morning at breakfast
we never had matches to light the stove. After checking as the went on we now have a list of many things we forgot to take.
We were use to having everything with us as fulltimers.
My cousin Wilbur & his wife came and visited us from Carlsbad, CA. They were with us for 2 days. They then went
to Seymour, IN to visit with other cousins.
We took our coach out for the first time for camping since quitting fulltiming. We went to Columbus, IN & stayed
at Ceraland park. On July 8, Wilbur met his half-sister, Georgeann, for the first time in 57 years. It was a joyous time
for everyone.
June 8, 2010 Our youngest daughter has been busy with our help. She bought a 3 horse slant with
living quarters which was located up by Angola, IN. We spent most of the day doing this task. Last Saturday we all went over
to Middle Fork Fish & Wildlife area where she was going to ride an Arabian horse that a guy had for sale. She rode the
horse & bought him. She is now set up for riding with only one problem. Her Tennessee Walking Horse is now lame in his
right foot. Now this is the horse I, Charles, ride. Oh well.
I have put new 4' steps up to the porch which goes to the front door. With the side door I built
a deck 4'X4' with at 6' ramp. Sure changes the looks of our house.
Coralie has been planting flowers & have baskets hanging on poles on the front porch. She has
2 humming bird feeders & we enjoy watching while setting on the porch.
May 18, 2010 We have been getting rain that is much more than is needed. 15 days of rain out of
18, about 4".
Friday we did had a clear day & we went with our daughter to Angola, IN to look at a horsetrailer
with living quarters. She bought the trailer. It is a Sundowner 3 horse slant, 10' short wall fully self contained. It
has everything that any RV has & the only thing different is it's a gooseneck rather than a 5th wheel.
The grass seed is coming up that we planted. The flowers are doing great. We have other work to
do but the weather has us mostly just laying around. We are both waiting for better weather.
May 4, 2010 Got a call from Duncan RV & we need everything new
from the ceiling up. This means new insulation & plywood. Gave an estimate of around $6000. Told them to go ahead.
We had some excitement around here at our house. Went out the other morning & part
of the ceiling on the porch was torn loose. So climbed up in the attic. Found a Coon so ran it out. Boarded up the places
so the Coon couldn't get back in the attic. 2 evenings later after we turned the TV off we heard this awful squalling
coming from the porch area. Went outside to check & found it was coming from the attic. Back up in the attic. Found 2
baby Coons & bought them down & put them in a box out on the porch. Soon the squalling stopped. When out on the porch
& the babies were gone. Hope that takes care of our coon problem forever.
April 25, 2010 We installed the 2 storms doors with out a hitch.
Charles went to the Dr. about the tingly feeling in his hands & his right shoulder. The Doc checked Charles's grip &
asked about the pain in his shoulders. After everything was done he said go home there's nothing that can be done at this
time as everything checks OK with the strength of your grip & the movement of your shoulder is fine.
We contacted another about the storm windows & said he would help do it for
$50. Still haven't got the storm windows installed. It has been raining the last couple days we may have our grass seed start
growing that we planted a week ago. Got a spreader for the fertilize the other from Menards.
We took the coach up to Ducan's in Elkhart, IN to have a new roof installed, as
the old one is showing a lot of wear.
4-11-2010 Summer has been here for a few days as it got up to the 80's and with a few sunny days.
We have bought storm doors & windows and was going to have them installed but when we were quoted a price of $200 for
the installation. This is only 5 windows & 2 doors. We decided to install them ourselves. We seem to be on the busy side
doing things but don't seem to be getting to much done. We went to a seminar put on by a bone specialists. After the seminar
Doctor appointments need to follow. Learned that some of our problems can be fixed so we were told.
3-8-2010 It's finally getting a little warmer here in Attica, IN but still getting down below 32
degrees at night. Most of the snow is gone and we both are thrilled. Then the rain started yesterday and this morning it's
very foggy. There's a huge old 3 story brick about a 100 yards from us and it's not visible.
Friday I did go out to our daughter's place in Rob Roy and the weather was nice as the sun was shining
so I could be outside. I was wire brushing cowling parts off our Ford tractor getting them ready for primer. Ran out of paint
about half way through. Saturday I was so sore that I could hardly move. Wonder if age has anything to do with that condition.
1-28-2010 Got another inch of snow this morning when we got up. It makes things look clean but I'm
darn tired of it as we have had some snow on the ground since Christmas. The sun is shining for the first time in more
than a week with a temperature of 17 degrees.
We both are doing OK.
1-11-2010 We have had snow since after Christmas. Got close to 8 inches overall. The temperatures
have been below zero a couple of days. It hasn't got above freezing for over 2 weeks. Am I complaining, you bet I am. We was
planning on FL but glad we never went as it's cold there.
We just got our electric bill $198. That's more than we have spent on heat for a year in our coach
at any time.
Dec. 6, 2009 Hey, we got our driveway all done as they worked on it for 2 full days. We had dirt
hauled in from our daughter's place about 5 miles from our place. Probably hauled in 20 dump truck loads. The only grass we
have is in the front yard.
It was 16 degrees yesterday so the dirt was hard to work but they did a good job. We have had some
snow flurries but none on the ground. Sure miss the warm desert.
Nov. 7, 2009 We moved into our house and it was full with stuff from the coach, but we did
have our bed and appliances already here. We have put in cabinets in the bathroom and over the laundry appliances. got doors
installed on our closets and installed fancy adjustable shelving. We now have high speed Internet and cable TV. Something
we have never thought about before. Having trouble setting up our router for Wifi. We have 3 wireless phones and 2 of them
have went bad so we now have 2 phones with a bluetooths. What's next?
Oct. 18, 2009 Well we bought a house in Attica, IN right on Hwy 28. It was built in the summer of
2008 & had never been lived in during this time. We closed on the 8th & trying to get things around. Our appliances
are being delivered Tuesday. We went into Lafayette yesterday to Trinity Thrift store & bought a King bed, dinette
with 6 chairs, 2 recliners & a small end table. We now are set once our Select Comfort air mattress arrives. Should be
here at the end of the week. We have our fingers crossed.
We are going to stay here for the winter & all ready it is to darn cold. We both bought a heavy
winter jacket for the first time in 12 years.
Sep. 24, 2009 We made a offer on the new house in Attica, IN with water leaks. They took our offer
the same day & will fix the water leaks. So now we have a house & with possession no later than Oct. 9. It has
been raining starting early this morning before daylight. Boy, do we hate rain but maybe we will get use to it again.
Bet the sun is out in AZ.
Sep. 18, 2009 We are still looking at houses. We looked again at a new house in Attica that
has never been lived in & we are leaning toward this. They turned the water on for the first time today & there was
a water leak which can be repaired. We read about another in another town not to far from Attica. Remember we are not homeless
just houseless.
Our realtor asked what was our means of financing & we said we plan on paying cash. She told
us that doesn't happen to often in the real estate business. She said that will really help when we make an offer. We will
see.
Aug. 27, 2009 Have been looking at houses in the area & have found some we can get by with &
are in our price range. They are located in the Veedersburg, IN area. Found a couple of maybes in Attica, IN. There are a
lot of vacate homes in the area.
Aug. 20, 21, 22 On the road heading for our daughter's place. Got into Rob Roy, IN at 4p. We will
be looking for a house in the area. Sure will miss being on the road. We had a great summer even though we were cold most
of the time.
Aug. 19, 2009 Left Stanton around 11a & drove to Jamestown, ND & saw the White Buffalo.
Spent the night at Walmart.
Aug. 18, 2009 Was 43 degrees this morning. Pulled out & drove to Stanton, ND. Stayed in Sakakawea
City Park. $9/day. Visited the Knife River NHS about a 1/2 mile north of town.
Aug. 17, 2009 The low was 47 degrees this morning. We have had a fire everyday here. The wind blows
very hard & it is overcast most of the time with rain showers off & on. At 1p the sun is tiring to make some headway.
Was going to move but decided to just loaf & stay here. The camping costs are reasonable $3/day.
Aug. 16, 2009 Drove up to Fort Union Trading Post near the ND & MT border. Went to the confluence
of the Missouri & Yellowstone river. Stopped in Williston, ND & ate supper at Subway & got our Walmart fix.
Aug. 15, 2009 Drove over to Theodore NP North Unit. Took the 28 mile round trip. Drove through the
buffalo herd & they were close enough to us that we could darn near touch one big bull. We were in the Geo. The bull made
the Geo look mighty small. The park has 8 head of longhorn cattle & we saw them at a distance, but could tell a couple
of them had a huge set of horns. Both parks have some outstanding rock formations. The glacier age stopped at the park as
there are individual rocks setting out in the middle of fields. The rocks are not from this area, but from Canada, so they
say.
Aug. 14, 2009 Drove north on US85 to CCC cpgds on the south side of Little Missouri river.
Theodore Roosevelt NP North Unit is just across the river from this cpgd.
Aug. 13, 2009 Toured the Chateau de Mores & saw some CCC stone work at the gate entrance. Still
in excellent shape after all these years. We have found this to be true at most sites the CCC & WPA projects.
Aug. 12, 2009 Toured the 36 mile road inside Theodore Roosevelt NP here at Medora, ND. Saw
buffalo as we left the cpgd. Then we saw 5 horses on top of a hill. This area is somewhat like the badlands of SD. We then
saw a herd of about 15 horses & their youngsters. Got back to the cpgd & there were buffalo in the road holding up
traffic. Charles was going to go to the bathroom in the cpgd, but when he got close to the building there were 4 huge buffalo
around the building. He went no farther. We then went to the visitors center & toured the original house Teddy Roosevelt
had built for the Maltese Ranch. Very small, but was live able. Probably had as much room as our coach, no inside plumbing.
Went & got us an icecream. Then to the Transportation Building & watched a movie on the building of the Panama Canal.
It was very good & was interesting for us as we had just went through it in Feb.
Aug. 8, 2009 We left Columbus, MT at 9:50a & did hit some rain but for the most part the weather
was OK. We were out in the middle of nowhere on MT87 when the oil pressure started moving a little. Stopped & it was 2
quarts low so put oil in the engine. Then noticed there was only about a 1/2 inch of engine belt left. The belt is suppose
to be 2" wide. We always carry a belt with us, so changed belts & on down the road. We arrived here in Circle,
MT at 4:50p & had driven 288 miles. We had no traffic to speak of after we got off the interstate & the roads
were on the straight side. We are parked in Circle town park which is "FREE".
Aug. 6, 2009 Took the Geo & headed for Beartooth Pass. What a drive, hairpin curves, steep inclines,
but it was a great drive as it takes U up above the timber line where there are nice meadows & bare rocks. The top is
10,975'. We ate supper in Cooke City, MT which is a western town, only one street & that's right through the middle. We
then drove to the Northeast gate of Yellowstone NP & then on to Tower Junction. We have driven every road in
the park & been to every gate. On the way we saw a huge herd of buffalo & a lot of new babies. On the way back we
drove in hard rain until Cooke City & then it lightened up. When we were at the top of Beartooth Pass there
was new snow on the road. We saw a lot of motorcycles as this is Sturgis, SD week. Sure brought back memories riding in those
cold rains. The temps were in the low 50's. The rain stopped a Red Lodge, MT where we stopped for another snack. We got back
to the coach at 9p. We were 2 tired puppies after 11 hrs.
Aug 4, 2009 We left this morning & went over Lolo pass to Missoula, MT & got on I90. Boy
what a relief after all those up & down plus curves to galore. A time for Charles to relax a little & look around.
Stopped in Columbus, MT & we are staying at "Itch-Kep-Pe" city park along the Yellowstone river. The sites are nice &
it's "FREE".
Aug. 3, 2009 Left Hood Park this morning & took US12 through ID & spent the night at Wendover
NF cpgd on Lolo Pass in ID.
Aug. 2, 2009 Linda & John came & visited this afternoon. They are more of our Kripple Kreek
family. Had a very good visit & Linda trimmed Coralie's hair.
Aug. 1, 2009 We are at the junction WA124 & US12 on the Snake river, parked in Hood Park
COE cpgd with electric for AC. Here are our travels & things including today.
July 20, We pulled out of Bear Creek cpgd & headed
for Port Townsend, WA. Bought a ferry ticket $66.90 & left after waiting about an hour. Drove the coach & Geo
onto the ferry & got off in Keystone, WA at Whidbey Is. Drove north to Fidalgo Is. to Anacortes, WA then west to
Washington Park out on the point. $17/night to dry camp.
July 21, took the Geo & got on the ferry, $46.10, & went to San Juan Is., WA. Next stop
Orcas Is. & last Lopez Is. We never went to Shaw Is. as we would have had to catch the ferry at 6a at Anacortes.
We got back to the coach around 10p.
July 22, went to North Cascades NP cpgd.
July 23, we visited Diablo Dam & there was no water going over the spillway, but we were glad
we visited this dam. Stopped at North Cascades & a Ranger showed us some interesting facts between the Grizzly & the
Black Bear.
July 26, went to Grand Coulee, WA. Was told about a "FREE" cpgd but couldn't find it so ended up
in Spring Canyon NP cpgd. Drove over to Grand Coulee Dam for the night Laser Light show & it was something we had never
seen any like before. Finally got warm enough that we could wear shorts. July 28, Came to Wallula, WA to Madame Dorion "FREE"
cpgd. The temp got up to 100 degs. during the day.
July 29, got up & decided to go looking for a cooler place as we had made an appointment
for the next day for some work on the Geo. That's how we ended here at Hood Park. We went into Kennewick, WA & looked
up where the church was & where we were to take to Geo. Couldn't find the Walmart as it had moved. Asked someone &
it was farther out of town yet, so went to Safeway & bought what we really needed.
July 30, drove into Kennewick, WA & got new wheel bearing for both front wheels, $663.79. Carl
called around 5p & asked if we could bring the Geo back in as they had forgotten to put a snap ring in place.
July 31, back in a got the snap ring installed. We then drove to Walla Walla, WA. to the Whitman
Mission NHS. Then went to visit some of our Kripple Kreek family. Donna & Steve but couldn't find their place as
our GPS told us as there was a freeway in the way. So we call them on our cellphone & was guided to their front door.
Boy are those cell phones great. Had a great visit. Then to College Place, WA to visit more of our Kripple Kreek family Gloria
& Steve. They Invited us for supper & the food was great & of course we ate way to much. Went to Walmart &
got our fix. Ended up sending $179.40
Aug 1, What a surprise we were working on our Blogsopt & someone knocked on our door & Gloria
& Steve had driven up for a visit. Our coach looked like a cyclone had gone through as all our computer stuff was all
over the floor. That's life & we believe they understand.
July 16, 2009 Drove to Cape Flattery parking area. Charles hiked out to the over looks which are
about 50' above the sea. Great rock formations. Saw many sea gulls & cormorants.
Came back to Neah Bay and watched a Bald Eagle eat a fish up in a tree. We watched until he finished
and had wiped his beak on a tree limb to clean. Charles took many pictures of the whole thing. Doesn't take much to entertain
us. Another beautiful day but still running our heater in the mornings.
July 15, 2009 Went to the Hoh Rain Forest, Olympic National
Park & the day was sunny. No rain. Lichen(moss) is attached to everything. Rain total for the year can be from 40" to
240". Trees here have huge growth rings for the same tree versus the tree less rain in another area.
July 14, 2009 Last night before we went to bed we noticed a tent setup by a motorhome & thought
that they were taking it a little to far. This morning the motorhome pulled out & there was a young couple who had spent
the night at Walmart in the tent. We saw no car so guessed that they were on foot.
We left & headed north for Sappho, WA & we are a few miles east on US101 at Bear Creek
cpgd & it's "FREE". Drove 126 miles.
July 13, 2009 Left Mt. Rainer just like we found it, socked in & headed for the coast.
Drove in drizzle most of the day & finally stopped in Aberdeen, WA at Walmarts for the night. Finally back in somewhat
the real world. Have email, phone, but only Fox on TV. 138 miles.
July 7, 2009 Pulled out of Tillamook, OR after 50 days touring the state. Probably saw more of the
state than most people who have lived here all their lives. Our next stop was Mt. Rainier & when we got here it was socked
in & couldn't see the mountain. If you have solar panels A13 Cougar Rock cpgd is the site for sun. The 9th, 10th &
11th were beautiful days for seeing Mt. Rainier. The mountain is great & we enjoyed each day. Saturday we were in our
shorts for the first time & it's been so long we can't remember the last time.
We have had no TV, Cell phone or email for the time we were here.
July 5, 2009 Went south on Hwy101 to Munson Falls turnoff and drove back close then
walked about a mile round trip. Enjoyed the falls then to Pacific City, OR then north along the coast. Visited Cape Meares
lighthouse. the very first Fresnel lens that is 1st Order. It is huge, 6' tall and the most powerful of the 6 Orders. This
is the shortest lighthouse on the OR coast. The shortest amount of steps every climbed to the lens.
We stopped at Oceanside, as we had stayed here in 1986 while we were on the Harley, and found the
place we stayed. Saw the sea loins on the rocks just off the shore. Came out at Tillamook and ate supper at Denny's.
Jul. 3, 2009 Charles visited the Tillamook Air Museum which is very close. The building is a Navy
blimp hanger & is the largest in the world built of wood. It is BIG, BIG & is clear span. Length 1072', Width
296' Height 192'. Covers over 7 acres. There are 2 Catwalks that are 137' above the ground. The doors are 120' tall &
6 sections each weighing 30 tons (total 180 tons). The door opening is 220'. There were 2 hangers here but one burnt in 1992.
The planes are owned by one person & all are in flying condition. Most of the planes are WWII vintage. This is probably
the best kept secret in the state of OR. Charles spent 4 hours in this building.
Jul. 2, 2009 Went to McMinnville, OR to the Evergreen Aviation Museum. Saw The "Spruce Goose", what
a huge plane & it was made of mostly wood. The plane at this time still has the longest wing span of any plane built.
We spent about 2 hours here.
We drove to Woodburn, OR & visited with Gloria whom we hadn't seen in 10 years. She is in great
spirits & a very active lady. We really enjoyed our visit very much.
Jul. 1, 2009 Did some laundry this morning then toured the Tillamook Cheese factory. The employees
were all standing & the pace very fast. Charles thought they sure could use a Union.
Jun. 30, 2009 Took hwy101 north to Astoria, OR to the Astoria Column. Charles climbed 164 steps to
the top. We drove over into WA for a short distance again crossing the mouth of the Columbia River. It is huge at this point.
Jun. 29, 2009 We moved to Tillamook, OR airport cpgd.
Jun. 28, 2009 Went to mass in Hood River, OR. The mass was said in Spanish. Drove across the Columbia
River at Hood River, OR over to WA. Went east this time & came back across the Bridge of the Gods at Cascades Locks, OR
Jun. 27, 2009 Went west on the Historical Columbia River Hwy. Toured Bonneville Power Plant &
watched the fish come up river at the viewing windows. Stopped at the Vista a $100,000 restroom we were told. Seen many falls
along the route.
Jun. 26, 2009 We are at Herman Creek a Mount Hood NF cpgd. We took the Columbia Gorge
east to Biggs, OR Crossed the Columbia into WA. Visited a replica of Stonehedge in honor of WWI military. Then Maryhill to
see many types of displays of art & Indian artifacts. Came back across the Columbia into Hood River, OR. The building
of these was by Sam Hill.
Jun. 25, 2009 From Sherwood a Mount Hood NF cpgd. we drove to Timberline Lodge at the base of Mt.
Hood. There were skiers coming down the Mt. Toured the lodge that was built by the WPA & the CCC. On Sept. 28, 1937 Pres.
Roosevelt dedicated the lodge.
Jun. 23, 2009 Staying at Diamond Lake a Mount Hood NF cpgd. Drove to Crater
Lake. The sun was bright so beautiful pictures. Charles hiked the Cleetwood Cove Trail down to the lake. The trail drops
700' & is 1.2 miles one way. He put his finger in the water. There is still a lot of snow.
June 22, 2009 Left Timber Valley Escapees Resort at Sutherlin, OR & went south to Wilbur, OR
& followed the Umpqua River close to Diamond Lake, which is about the head waters. We are staying at Diamond Lake National
Forest cpgd & the mosquitoes are huge & thick.
After we got the coach setup we followed the Rouge River. Viewed the gorge & then saw the Natural
Bridge that goes across the Rouge River. The river passes underground. Both sights is well worth the time. We stopped in Union
Creek & got an icecream. Got a dip in a bowl. It was huge & very good, but did cost $3/dip. What the heck we ate all
the icecream. The sun was out for the entire day & the temperature was nice. Didn't need a jacket.
June 19, 2009 Left Grayback cpgd this morning & was heading for the coast. We called Crater
Lake & were informed that the east rim is now open. We aren't going to the coast as we have been down it 2 other times.
We are now in Sutherlin, OR at Timber Valley Escapee Park.
June 18, 2009 Drove to Oregon Caves National Park. The buildings are beautiful. We never toured
the cave as we are really aren't cave people, but understand that it is beautiful. This evening a guy rode through the cpgd
on a mule, Doc Holiday, & ponying another much smaller mule, Sugarite. Talked with him for about a half hour.
June 17, 2009 Drove down the CA coast through the Rewood trees. Stopped at the Trees of Mystery
but didn't ride the Gondola. Then to Klamath, CA & drove through a Redwood tree with our Geo. The tree is said to
be 770 years old.
June 16, 2009 We are now at Grayback NF cpgd just east of Cave Junction, OR. Not a solar cpgd.
June 12, 2009 Went up to Crater Lake & there is still a lot of snow. The last time we were here
was 1986 on our Harley. It was the last part of Sept. & everything was covered with about 6' of snow. The east rim
drive is still closed because of snow & we were told it would be closer to the end of the month before it would probably
be opened. It rained most of the time we were there with low clouds. The Lake was still of great beauty with the surroundings.
When we got back to the cpgd it was sunny.
June 11, 2009 Drove to Klamath Falls, OR, as we are about 30 miles north on Hwy 97, to Walmart.
Our cupboards were bare. Got our Walmart fix to the tune of $170.20. Gotta stay away from this place. Every time we go
there it cost us mucho monies.
June 10, 2009 Left Christmas Valley, OR this morning at 10a. On the way we hit rain for part of
the way, but also had sun at times. We pulled into Williamson Creek NF cpgd at 12:30p & there had been no rain. After
we got all set up it rained for about a 1/2 hour, but was mostly sunny the rest of the time.
June 8, 2009 Drove over to Fort Rock, OR to the state park. There were woven sandals that were found
here that were supposed to be 3500 years old. Well guess what there not here, but they are somewhere but no ones knows where.
We then drove to a volcanic hole in the ground, but wasn't to impressed. Came back to Fort Rock
& ate supper.
June 5, 2009 Drove to see the "Crack in the Ground" north of Christmas Valley, OR. It is 70' deep
in places & 2 miles long. According to all information it was caused by an earthquake. It was about 15 miles from the
main road a lo & behold there was a restroom back there. It was well maintained.
The coach roof started leaking up front & think we got that fixed.
June 6, 2009 We drove over to Silver Lake, OR & checked out some Free cpgds, but decided to
stay at a cpgd in Sliver Lake for $50 a week, full hookups.
Found 2 spots closer to the middle of the roof that the rubber had a couple of splits. Hope
we got that sealed, as that isn't leaking inside yet.
We have been getting rain like U wouldn't believe. It is just off & on but not much accumulation,
say like .1" each time. Just aggravating when we are trying to seal a leak.
June 3, 2009 Left Burns, OR & we are now in Christmas Valley, OR & we will be here for a
week as there are some things we want to see. We also need to pickup our mail.
June 1, 2009 Pulled out of Union Creek NF cpgd & headed for Idlewild NF cpgd Burns, OR.
While on Hwy 7 we came up on a herd of about 50 cows, plus their calves, being driven right down the highway. A new experience
for us in our travels. The cattle were being driven the old fashion way by horses. There were about 6 people on horses doing
the job. 1 of the riders went up through the herd & we followed.
May 31, 2009 Went to mass in Baker City, OR. Visited the National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive
Center. We then walked on the Oregon Trail.
May 30, 2009 Drove over to Sumpter, OR. Toured a dredge that bought gold up from the bottom of the
Powder River for over 20 miles. The bucket speed was 25 buckets per minute & could reach to a depth of 45 ft below the
surface. The dredge shut down in 1945 with a total of $4,500,000 at $35 per ounce.
We then went to a ghost town Granite, OR that does have a few people living there. From here
we went & toured the Fremont Electric Co. which had generators driven by water that come from Olive Lake 7 miles away.
The power company doesn't operate now.
May 28, 2009 Went east of La Grande, OR to Hot Springs Resort. In the early 20th
century it was known for the geothermal waters, 208 degrees with a sulphur smell, state of the art medical clinic.
David & Lee Manuel are restoring the building. David is a internationally renowned bronze-sculptor.
He also oil paints.
May 27, 2009 Pulled out of Idlewild NF campground & drove through some beautiful country, but
very tiring as we went over about 5 mountain passes which is a lot of crooked roads. Mostly 2nd, 3rd, & 4th. In the valleys
we could get in 5th gear. Drove about 150 miles. We are now at Union Creek NF campground on a big lake which we can look
at out our windshield.
May 24, 2009 Went to mass in Burns then to McDonald for breakfast. We drove down to Frenchglen a
very small community. The Hotel is on the National Historical record. We then drove to the Pete French round barn. Was
different than any round barn we have seen. Made on the umbrella principle. There was a nest in the barn with 2 young Ravens-Crows
& they were squawking as they were probably hungry. The parents were not about to come in the barn with all the people
that were there, but they did set on the fence outside the barn. We saw about 6 whooping cranes, some flying & some eating
in the fields. Saw a coyote. There were many types of duck as we were in the Malheur National Wildlife area. This area
is swampy this time of year.
May 22, 2009 Went into Burn, OR & picked up the Geo the bill came to $830.66 which wasn't
bad as they installed a new timing belt, clutch cable, & starter. Tire Factory charged us $411.45 for just installing
a starter that was no good, talk about a rip off. Stay away from them & especially in Winnemucca, NV. Mike knew the starter
he sold us was bad but said it could be the timing belt & even the new battery. There was nothing wrong with the timing
belt or the battery. Just wanted us out the door as he knew we were traveling.
May 20, 2009 The Geo wouldn't start this morning, plus the clutch cable broke while trying to start, so
hooked it on behind the coach & came to Burns, OR to a GMC dealer for them to have a look see. We took the coach &
came to a forest campground north of Burns. The name of the campground is Idlewild. Big Ponderosa Pines, but we did find 1
fairly sunny spot for the solar panels.
May 19, 2009 Drove up to Winnemucaa, NV & bought a new battery for the Geo & still didn't
want to start. Got a new starter still no improvement. Came back to campground.
May 18, 2009 Pulled out of Lahontan & went to Rye Patch Rec. Area. Went into Lovelock, NV this
afternoon & bought a padlock to put on the love chain in the County Court House lawn. This is a Chinese custom to seal
ones love forever. When we went to leave the Geo didn't want to start but finally got going.
May 16, 2009 Went & visited Shirley & Allan, Coralie's brother. While there we watched the
Preakness & the filly Alexandra Rachel won. The Kentucky Derby Mine That Bird can in 2nd. We then met Shirley & Allan
after mass at the Waterhole for supper. We had a great day & enjoyed our visited very much.
May 15, 2009 Just cooling it for the day.
May 14, 2009 Drove over to Lahontan State Recreation Area with the Geo & found a developed
area with no hookups. Went back to Ft. Churchill & got the coach & moved over to Lahontan.
Went into Silver Springs, NV & did laundry then headed for Fernley, NV to get our Walmart fix
as we hadn't been in the store since leaving Yuma, AZ. $75 later we headed for the coach. We were both on the tired side again.
May 13, 2009 Pulled out of Mt. Ward campground at 10a & headed for Silver Springs, NV. Stopped
at Stillwater Wildlife Area but wasn't to our liking so moved onto Lahontan Reservoir but couldn't find any camping spots.
Drove to Fort Churchill campground, arrived at 8p & spent the night. Needless to say this was a very, very long day
for us & we were both tired. This is a very quite area & big Cottonwood trees for those who want shade.
May 11, 2009 Drove south of Ely, NV to Ward's Charcoal Kilns, then to an Elk viewing area, but saw
no Elk. Drove west of Ely to Garnet Hill. We both found some garnets just lying in among the rocks. The garnet are embedded
in a piece of rock so will have to chip each one out with care. Charles tried to get one out by hitting it with another rock
and broke part of the garnet. Shucks.
May 9, 2009 We are parked at Ward Mtn. Forest Campground just south of Ely, NV. We are 7500'
above sea level with snow on the mountains. We left Death Valley yesterday, with an elevation of 109' below sea
level, and have had temps. in the 100's and lows at night in the 80's. This morning it was 35 degrees here on the mountain.
Talk about going from the frying pan into the fridge. We have our heater going to stay warm.
We arrived at Death Valley Apr. 30th and left May 8th and did a lot of washboardy
roads, but seen a lot of interesting things. Our Geo is still loaded with dust on the inside, it doesn't look bad as
we can wipe the outside off.
Apr. 26, 2009 Coralie's cousin Shirley and her husband Don came over this afternoon and visited
for awhile. Had a great visit.
Apr. 25, 2009 Went to Carlsbad, CA and visited with Charles's cousin Wilbur and his wife
Cecilia and their children. Went to an excellent Mexican restaurant for supper. Got back after dark and found we were locked
out of the campground, but there was a phone number you could call for the code. Thank goodness we had a cell phone.
Apr. 24, 2009 Pulled out of Hot Springs at 11a and drove to Lakeside, CA to Lake Jennings Campground.
Had a head wind most of the way. Got here around 2:30p. At 9p it is 64 degrees and boy is that cold for us, especially after
the above the 100 degree weather we came from.
Apr. 23, 2009 Pulled out of Winterhaven, CA this morning and drove to Hot Springs LTVA about
5 miles east of Holtville, CA. 100 degrees
Apr. 22, 2009 Coralie had a Dr's. appointment and he gave her a shot and a Rx. She has been having
coughing fits and sinus problems. 104 degrees.
Apr. 20, 2009 Left Southeast Diesel around noon and the recharge on the AC sure made a huge difference.
Drove to Paradise Casino Winterhaven, CA for a few nights. 107 degrees.
Apr. 17, 2009 We pulled out of Kripple Kreek this evening at 5p. We are now in Yuma, AZ at South
Diesel to have our AC recharged.
When we were packing up we found 2 rattlesnakes a good ways out in front of the coach under a bush. One
of them made a lot of noise with its rattles, but the other one never made a sound. The one making the
noise was much bigger than the other. We couldn't see any rattles on the smaller snake. They were not a threat to us,
so we let them be. We got pictures & will post them on the blog soon.
Apr. 13, 2009 We have been coming to Kripple Kreek since 1992 & this is the first year that
we have seen Gambrel Quail chicks. A pair of quail bought about 15 little ones through.
Apr. 12, 2009 Went to Sunrise Services at YPG. About 40 attended. Had finger food afterwards
in the Fellowship Hall. We went to mass later. Everyone gather for more food after noon in the Fellowship Hall. About 900
Marines from NC are training here so both services had an excellent turnout. Everyone let the service personnel eat first.
There were over 50 Marines & we never ran out of food. What was left over will be taken out to them later.
We have had as high as 6 hummingbirds on our feeder at one time. One of them was a male Rufus.
We are the only ones left in Kripple Kreek. Dwight & Rebecca left yesterday evening.
Apr. 4, 2009 WIND, WIND & more WIND up to 50 mph. Even though it's 70 degrees it's still cool.
Hard to believe for those who live in colder climates.
There are only 4 units left in Kripple Kreek. Dwight & Rebecca, John & Heather, a new couple
who just pulled in about a week ago & of course us.
A pair of Orioles are now feeding at our Humming bird feeder. The Hummers do not appreciate
this intrusion.
Mar. 29, 2009 Thousands of Painted Lady butterflies are coming through
our area heading north. Can't ever remember seeing that many of them before & we have been coming to this area, most
years, since 1992.
People are pulling out of the Senator Wash area & there are
only 7 units left here in Kripple Kreek. Not as long of lines in Yuma when shopping & the traffic is much less. Boy,
have we been getting the wind during the day. It seems more days with wind than without. One thing nice about that it keeps
thing on the cool side & it is still sunny, which everyone enjoys.
Mar. 23, 2009 We had a campfire and finger food at 5p at the
main fire pit. Carol & Frank, Rebecca & Dwight, Lonnie & Nina, Karen & Jim, & us. Plenty of food. The
party broke up at 9p. The wind died down which made everything really nice.
Mar. 20, 2009 A fairly warm spell is now in our area, with temperatures
reaching close to the 90's. It's nice enough that we are leaving our windows are open at night . 5
rattlesnakes have been sighted here in Kripple Kreek, Senator Wash, Imperial Dam, CA. The Chuckwallas are showing themselves
on a regular basis. We have told most of the winter visitors here at Kripple Kreek. All enjoyed them very much. There are
2 of Chuchwallas. We saw a Gecko lizard this afternoon near our coach.
Mar. 14, 2009 We had friends visit us as they were spreading the ashes of their father, George.
George passed away at the age of 98. He spent the winters here in Kripple Kreek in his Class C motorhome. When
everything was done and we were talking about George and some things we all knew about him, two Chuckwallas appeared on the
rocks as if to say, "I'll be darn George came back". We were all kind of chocked up for awhile. George always watched for
them and would let us all know when they came out of the rocks. This is the first time we have seen the Chuckwallas since
George quite coming, which was around 2001 or 2002.
Mar. 7, 2009 Karen & Jim had a potluck on 2-25 & around
40 of us attended. We never made it to the potluck as we spent most of the afternoon in Yuma. We never got back to Kripple
Kreek until 6p, but did go up for the campfire. Everyone appeared to have a great time. We know we had a great time.

Chan movie.

Riggins a singer.
Day 6 Huatulco, Mexico Charles went on a 4 hour walking tour. Ate my first grasshoppers. I
tried them right out of the plate. Then my tour guide fixed for me the way they eat grasshoppers. A thin crust covered
with chocolate, cheese & grasshoppers. They are not crunchy, but have a good flavor, better than rattlesnake which I have
eaten. The ship was pulling out when I got to our room. Whew.
Day 7 At sea. We both set on deck 12 in the sun & got pretty red. Came back & set on our
veranda. Dressup night for supper in the Manhattan room.
Day 8 Puntarens, Cosa Rica We took a bus, train & boat ride. Took the bus out to the train.
The train cars is suppose to be over a 100 years old. The engine was a diesel. Back in the bus to see the crocodiles.
Saw monkeys on the way. Took a boat out in a very muddy river. Saw all kinds of birds & also crocodiles. Watched a boy
take a chicken's leg & hold it up above his head while the crocodile came out of the water to get the chicken. The boy
did this twice. Boy was probably 16 years old. Got back to the ship after 7p so we had to eat buffet in the Palm Springs cafe
for supper. We always ate our breakfast & dinners here because of the view. The cafe had a bay window that you could set
out over the water. excellent view.
Day 9 At sea. Days at sea makes us think of what a prison would be like, but with outstanding
services. Talked with the 2nd in command & told him our thoughts & he said " That's what we crew members call the
ship when at sea."
Day 10 Panama Canal day. An experience well worth every penny. If you haven't been all the way through,
do it. Don't take one that goes half way then turns around & takes you out the way you came in. It took us 8 hours to
go through. The Gatun Lake will blow your mind as to how huge it is in size. Not very deep. We had a short stop, of about
a hour, in Cristobal Colon, Panama. Charles went a shore & walked around. The young men were wearing loin clothes
& the I saw a bare chested young lady about 30 years old & maybe 5 ft. tall. Her upper body was tattooed in dark ink.
Never saw anymore as I really wasn't looking. Reports told to us that there were many.
Day 11 At sea. We laid around poolside. They had the La Playa pool grill where we ate our noontime
meal quite often. On the menu was glaucoma & chips with which we stuffed our selves.
Day 12 Caratagena, Columbia, South America. The old city has a wall all around it that took
200 years to build & also has a huge fort. Vendors lined the street & we bought most of our stuff here in this city.
There is a hotel here that the rent is $1200/ night. We asked how much 10 minutes would cost. Presidents have stayed here
FDR, & Clinton, but we think at no cost to them. The city is known for its emeralds.
Day 13 at sea. Went to the Celebrity theater for an excellent show. Dressup night in the Manhattan
room.
Day 14 At sea. Went to Celebrity theater as to the instructions for getting off the ship.
We packed our bag that was supposed to be checked. Also got most of our carry on packed.
Day 15 Up at 6a as we should have everything out of our room by 8a. We are now in Fort
Lauderdale, FL. Got off the ship at 9:30a. A bus to the airport & arrived around 10:30a. Our flight left for Alanta, GA
at 2:30p. Left Alanta at 7p arrived in San Diego, CA 10p. Remember there's a 3 hour difference between FL & CA. Took a
bus back to Yuma, AZ arrived at 2a. Our cupboard was bare so a stop at Walmart. Pulled into Kripple Kreek at 3:15 on Feb.
15. Got to bed at 4a. We were to ready for our Select Comfort Air mattress as our backs were hurting.
Jan. 10, 2009 Another year shot. Hope everyone has a great New Year. We did do some 4WD
stuff the other day & haven't downloaded the pictures. We are very reserved 4 wheelers.
The weather has been cold for this area, plus a lot of hard wind.
We both are under the weather with sinus problems. Hope this clears out soon.
Dec. 28, 2008 We never did anything Christmas Day just stayed home and relaxed. The weather has
been in the 50's during the day and we did have about 4 days of very overcast skies. Still cold and a strong north wind with
the present temperature at noon of 52 degrees. Where are those 70 degree days we generally have this time of year.
Dec. 21, 2008 The YPG church had a potluck at the church fellowship hall. There were about 60 of
us present. Food, food and more food. We had a great time as this was our Christmas Dinner. We met a talked with new people
and they were from Idaho.
Nov. 28, 2008 Ron came with the road grader & graded the ditch so it was good for travel. We
moved our coach on the other side of the ditch. About 200' from where we were parked.
Nov. 27, 2008 The Thanksgiving Potluck was to be held at the Gravel Pit in the pavilion, but had
to be moved as the parking area was standing in water. We all gather at the YPG church Fellowship Hall. There were about 75
of us there. Plenty of delicious food. All kinds of desserts. They gave away 2 computers.
Nov. 26, 2008 We went into Yuma for the day & had a lot of rain. We got back about 4p &
a ditch we crossed was bad, but got across with the Geo. Frank, our neighbor, found our barrel we use to haul water
& he said it was about 1/4 mile down stream where he found the barrel. We couldn't find our water filter & gave up.
That rain fall amounted to 1.5". It rained again during the evening & we got another 1.4". We are told that is the most
rain for this area in a 24 hour period. Annual rain fall for the area is about 3".
Nov. 16, 2008 We had a Thanksgiving potluck at YPG Chapel dinning area. There were probably 60 of
us that enjoyed the festival. The dessert went very fast, but there was plenty of food for all. Everyone had a great time.
Coralie helped with cleanup which means she helped do the dishes.
Nov. 15, 2008 We are having beautiful weather, mostly in the 80's during the day. Wed. we were at
Linda and John's for a cookout. Steve and Donna also joined for the gathering. We visited until about 6p and it was starting
to get chilly so we all headed to our home.
There are still just 11 units here at Kripple Kreek as 1 pulled out the other day and went we don't
know where.
The BLM maintenance guy, Al, bought the road grader down and graded in a ditch to keep our units
from dragging when we went across. We had went to the BLM office and talked with Mark who said he would take care of
the problem. Al did an excellent job with the road grader.
Nov. 8, 2008 There are now 11 units in Kripple Kreek. The donkeys
have settled down as we don't notice the braying as much. Coralie has been having trouble of being exhausted. We have a Dr's
appointment on the 17th to see if the problem can be determined.
Charles went for a hike that was supposed to be only 4 miles and ended up being closer
to 7 miles. There were 4 of us in the group. On the way back Charles stumbled and nearly went to the ground, but didn't receive
a scratch. Two day later he noticed that his left big toe looked funny, kind of blue. Well not only is the big toe really
blue, the next toe is also blue. Figured it must have gotten injured when he stubbed his left foot. Watch where your going
and pick your feet up.
The weather has cooled off some as it is in the high 70's and no wind as it had been
very windy. We are happy as every day has been shorts wearing day.
Oct. 30, 2008 This morning at 3a a Donkey brayed right outside our bed room window. Set us both
straight up in bed. Charles hollered at it, then went out and checked and it was gone. After breakfast Charles when on
what was suppose to be a 3 mile hike, which he can handle with a breeze. The hiked ended up lasting 5 hours and was over 6
miles of very rough terrain. There were 3 other people who are seasoned hikers. We saw Technical Color Mountain. Very pretty.
Needless to say that was a little much for Charles. Plus he rode to the meeting place and back to the coach for a total of
4.4 miles. he believes he will just stick with the bicycle.
Still getting into the 90's during the day but there always seems to be a nice breeze.
Donna and Steve pulled in this afternoon. Have known them since we have been coming to Kripple Kreek.
Was glad to see them and they appear to both doing OK.
Oct. 26, 2008 Patty and Jim pulled this morning. Setup across the road from us. Removed a florescent
light and installed a new one.
Oct. 25, 2008 Into Yuma, AZ and it is good to be back "HOME". Our favorite Mexican restaurant, Chili
Verde, has shut the doors. Bought gas $2.94 and diesel was the same price. Did some shopping, bought some flowers and bird
feed for the gambrel quail, then went to mass at St. Thomas in Winterhaven, CA. Stopped and ate supper at Taco Mi Rancho,
was OK but not great as it used to be. Must be a different cook. Did some more shopping and didn't get home until after 8p.
Oct. 24, 2008 Went to Christian Service Center and signed up to receive our mail here. Then stopped
and talked with Grace and Raymond from MN. His slide and jacks aren't working on his coach again. Up to Southern Mesa and
bought our LTVA pass for the season, $180.
Oct. 23, 2008 Left at 9:30a. Stopped in Wellton, AZ and got propane, $2.80/gal. Onto Kripple Kreek,
CA. Got here at 12:20p. Lannie and Dianne, Joe's spot, were here and another couple. After we got set up a couple pulled
in by the salt cedar out front. It got up 90 deg. but there was a cool breeze from the north.
Oct. 22, 2008 Left Casa Grande, AZ at 10a and drove to the Painted Rocks petroglyphs site. This
is a park maintained by the BLM. A great place but we were the only ones there beside the camp host. We got here at noon.
The park is about 12 miles north of Interstate 8 on a blacktop road with only about a mile of gravel in the campground. We
spent the night and it got on the cool side. Light the Blue Flame for awhile this morning.
Oct. 21, 2008 Left Deming, NM at 11:30a. Had a beautiful day driving. The temperature was up to
90 at Tucson, AZ. Oh, happy day finally getting warm Stopped in Eloy, AZ and fueled up. Diesel $3.05, still to darn high.
Pulled into the Escapee Park at Casa Grande, AZ at 4p. 5 1/2 hrs. on the road is enough. We are boondocking just for tonight
and will pull out sometime in the morning, late. We are 175 miles from Yuma.
Oct. 14, 2008 We are at Escapee Dream Catcher park in Deming, NM. Washed the coach and car as we
had drove in a lot of rain getting here.
Oct. 12, 2008 This evening at the Senior Center the community had a potluck with live music. Our
Boondocker group was invited and there was a great turnout. So if you ever get to Englewood, KS don't plan on losing any weight
while visiting. The people are great. Eldean, the Mayor of Englewood and Brenda joined us for all the happens at the
Senior Center. Charles rode his bicycle 30 miles at this rally.
Oct. 11, 2008 Down to the Senior Center and Brenda had made cinnamon rolls. So we had coffee and
rolls.
A guy bought by a 653 lb. pumpkin for us to see. He gave us some seeds and they a huge as well.
Oct. 10, 2008 Had coffee and cookies at the Senior Center. Drove out to Pat and Jerry's for
coffee and apple pie. They have a beautiful 2 story house.
Got back and Dee and Darrell had fixed Chili and Cornbread for the campers.
Oct. 9, 2008 Down to the Senior Center for coffee and monkey bread. First time for monkey bread
and it was great. Mary Lou made the bread.
Oct. 8, 2008 The group went out to Olis Goodnight ranch for a tour. The Goodnight's own over 18,000
acres. Most of it is grass land, but they do some dry land farming. Said it takes 20 acres for a cow-calf operation.
Oct. 6, 2008 Rita and Bill pulled in and joined the group. The group had a potluck down at the Senior
Center as it has been raining most of the day.
Oct. 4, 2008 Walked down to the Senior Center and Brenda, local lady, had made Cinnamon rolls. They
were great as the Center also had coffee.
We drove to Dodge City, KS and toured the place. Had a great time.
Oct. 3, 2008 Ernest's solar system wasn't charging his batteries. He had bought a new controller
system for $400 and the problem was just a blown fuse. This evening we had a potluck supper.
Oct. 2, 2008 Left Cottonwood Falls and drove to Englewood, KS for a Escapee Boondocker Rally.
There were already 3 couple here and it doesn't start until tomorrow. Pat and Jerry, Mary Lou and Ernest, and Loyal and Rose.
We all gathered at 4p for Happy Hour, but had to cut it short as it started raining.
Oct. 1, 2008 Drove over to the Tall Grass National Monument which is located north of Cottonwood
Falls.
Sep. 30, 2008 Left Minola Lake and drove to Cottonwood Falls, KS and parked in Swope Park, their
city park.
Sep. 29, 2008 Went to Springhill, KS and visited with Pearl and Del. We all went out and ate in
Olathe, KS. Had a very good visit. Clarene and Roger came out this evening for a short visit. Again enjoyed the visit.
Sep. 28, 2008 Went and saw Doris a cousin of Coralie's. Then drove out to Antioch and crashed the
Fruit Reunion. Saw a lot of people we knew and they made us feel great. Listen to Sam Christler play classical music on the
piano, was very good. He is a professional cellist. He also conducts Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
Sep. 26, 2008 Visited with Clarene and Roger, then went to Tapatio's for supper. Really enjoyed
ourselves. If we ever get in their neck of the woods we will be sure and look them up.
Sep. 25, 2008 We pulled out of Jamoco cpgd this morning and are now at Miola Lake at Paola, Kansas.
Sep. 24, 2008 We to 18th and Vine in Kansas City, MO to visit the Negro Baseball League and the
Jazz Museum. There is a Civil Rights display that has very good information about the movement. We would grade this as just
average to see.
Sept. 23, 2008 We went to the Moon Marble Co. in Bonner Springs, KS this morning and watched
a guy make a glass marble that had colors that were swirled. The process was interesting and showed a lot of talent. Then
we went to the WWI Memorial. The equipment looks so out of date compared to the equipment use by the military now. We wanted
to visit Hallmark Card Co. but was not open to visitors until Oct. 1, 2008. Bummer. Called a Navy buddy but his phone number
has been given to someone else.
Sept. 22, 2008 Pulled out of Babler St. Park at 9:30a headed for Blue Springs, MO. We are at Jacomo
cpgd on site #53. We then went and did laundry at Lee Summit, MO. Ate supper at Long John Slivers for supper. Got back to
the coach at 7p.
Sept. 20, 2008 Grant's farm is owned by the Busch family. The farm was originally owned by Pres.
Grant. We enjoyed our day with many different animals and watching the children interact with everything. We stopped and got
a Ted Drewes concrete ice cream.
Sept. 19, 2008 Visited the Butterfly house in Chesterfield, MO. We wore our shorts as it is very
humid in the butterfly building. Many plants were in the building from many parts of the world.
Sept. 18, 2008 Toured the Anheuser-Bush Brewery. Man, do they make a lot of beer in one day. They
have more different beers than we thought was possible. We saw the Clydesdales & the barn where some of them are
kept. The barn is out of this world. The tour was over an hour but very interesting. If you get to St. Louis go see this company.
We then was taken to the dinning area where everyone was offered 2 beers of their choice. We both drink a soda & had pretzels.
We then stopped at Ted Drewes Custard place on old US66 & had a concrete sundae. To die for.
Another place to be sure to stop. It was voted the best custard in the west.
Sept. 17, 2008 Went to Purina Research farms. Was totally surprised with all the products that they
have & are still producing. We watched 3 dogs do some active tricks. Saw a variety of animals.
Sept. 16, 2008 Pulled out of Walmart & drove to Babler St. Park west of St. Louis. Where we will
be spending a few days.
Sept. 15, 2008 Pulled out of Ceraland, Columbus, IN, at 1p & pulled into Vincennes, IN Walmart

Really enjoyed the visit.
Sept. 12, 2008 Went down to Seymour, IN & met the Shepard's, Charles's cousin, for an early
supper. Visited with Charles's 98 year old Mother in Reddington. She is doing great for her age.
September 7, 2008 A Carr Reunion was held in Gary Etter's place out south and west of Martinsville,
IN. There were over 25 present as it is hard to count the youngn's as they move around quickly. Food to galore and plenty
was left for another 40 people. Everyone had a very great time. Some enjoyed fishing in the lake and some caught a few fish.
August 30, 2008 Claudia and Charles went into Attica for breakfast at Mr. B's. Had a skillet breakfast.
Charles ate all of it and was stuff. Claudia took some home. Charles came back to Ceraland.
Coralie and Charles got around and went to mass at St. Bartholomew. We then picked up a bucket of
KFC with 3 sides and headed for Therese and Jeff's home. We then went to Mill Race park in Columbus, IN for an excellent concert.
The concert was Ricky Nelson's son and most of the songs were of the 50's era. The next group was of the Beach Boys
era. This our 3rd year. One great thing it's all "FREE".
August 29, 2008 Left Ceraland Park and went to Crawfordsville and picked up a radiator for the Ford
farm tractor then headed for Rob Roy. Got to Claudia's place and put the radiator on the tractor. Claudia and Charles went
to Robie's in Attica for supper. She got a movie and we watched it but the movie was just an average movie. We were glad that
we hadn't paid to see it at the movie. Claudia has a truck slide in camper so Charles spent the night in the camper.
August 28, 2008 Went to Reddington, IN and took a small cake and some ice cream to celebrate Charles's
sister Carolyn's birthday and visit with his 98 year old Mother.
August 27, 2008 Got a call and the radiator is in for the Ford tractor.
August 25, 2008 We pulled out of Rob Roy, IN and came to Columbus, IN. We are staying at Ceraland
for a couple of weeks.
August 22, 2008 Still waiting for the radiator for the Ford tractor. Called this morning and said
it should be in today. About the 5th time we have heard this same statement. We are wanting to get out of here and head down
to Columbus, IN to visit with our older daughter before heading for Yuma, AZ.
Woke up to a nice rain and it was needed. It is still raining lightly.
August 20, 2008 Fabricated a battery box that will hold 2 group 29 batteries. Installed the box
and only had 1 24 group battery for the box. Oh, well that's life. When it is set up the way we want should easy be able to
go a week without sun.
August 14, 2008 Mowed the pasture with the Ford tractor and was done when the radiator started
leaking so came in and removed the radiator. Took radiator over to get a new core as the old core was over 50 years
old and was very rotten.
August 13, 2008 Headed for Rob Roy, IN. Our daughter lives on the out skirts. Today is the 18th
and this is the first time we have had a little time as we have had things to do. One thing getting the coach ready to
head west. Oil, oil filters, fuel filters changed and other odd jobs. Installed a spare tire on the front of the
coach finally.
August 12, 2008 Pulled into Charlotte, MI for a night at Spartan Chassis. Finally some warm weather.
August 11, 2008 We went to see an Octagon barn near Gagetown, MI. Quite an elaborate building. The
house was great for when it was built. Drove to Port Austin, Port Hope, and Harbor Beach to look at more lighthouses.
Was very disappointed as our information was that one could climb some of them. None could be climbed. So we headed back to
Evergreen, Sanilac County park where we had the coach parked the last 3 days. We have been running our furnace most of the
days and night while in MI as it got down in the low 50's during the night and stayed in the 60's some days.
August 9, 2008 Went to mass in Cass City, MI. A baby was baptised and it was something we had never
seen. They took all the clothes off of the baby and then put her into the water about half way. There she was in nothing but
her birthday suit. Then the priest anointed her head with oil and boy did he put the oil on her head. We were both just in
awe.
August 4, 2008 Left Kalkaska RV park around 11:30a and drove to Indian River, MI. Got to Indian
River RV park around 12:30p. We then drove over to Cheboygan and saw 2 lighthouses. Then to 40 Mile lighthouse. It was closed
but got some great pictures. Talked with a couple from Ohio. Told them about where we stayed in Yuma, AZ and they became very
interested. We then went to Presque Isle and saw the new and old lighthouses. Charles climbed to the top of the new lighthouse.
The old lighthouse was very impressive we both climbed to the top and looked at the 4th order Fresnel lens. There were many
things in this lighthouse that had things we had never seen.
August 3, 2008 Left Sleeping Bear cpgd around 11a and drove to Kalkaska RV Park east of Kalkaska,
MI about 3 miles. Took the Geo and went and saw a lighthouse. It is located on the Old Mission Peninsula, MI. It was completed
in 1870 and is sitting halfway between the Equator and the North Pole, 45th parallel. We chatted with the volunteer keepers
for a good while and got a lot of information. On the way back we stopped at a road side stand and bought 3 quarts of MI cherries.
We can't get enough of the cherries. Cost $10. Got back to the cpgd around 6p. The weather was beautiful.
August 2, 2008 Coralie was up before 6a and Charles was up at 7a as we are heading for Leland, MI.
Historic Fishtown is located within Leland. We picked up our tickets for the boat. Got under way at 10a heading for South
Manitou Island. It took a 1 1/2 hours to arrive. We ate our dinner. Then everyone loaded up in a 1971 Ford pickup that had
no top on the cab with a modified bed which would hold 11 people, setting very close. The tour took us to 2 old farmsteads.
A school house which was located in the center of the island so that the children that walked to school would be closest to
them. Then a cemetery. A natural pond that had a beaver dam which they believed 3 beavers were in the dam.
We then came back to our starting point. We then walked to the lighthouse. Charles climbed to the
top of the 10 story lighthouse. This lighthouse had some features in it that Charles had not seen in any other ones he
had seen, which is probably 60. The view was fabulous at the top. John the park ranger that gave the presentation
was very knowledgeable.
We got back to Fishtown at 5:30p. Had an ice cream cone and then headed back to Sleeping Bear cpgd.
Ate supper and then Charles started his computer rituals.
July 31, 2008 Went sight seeing of the dunes area. Took the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive. Walked
to an overlook that is 450 feet above Lake Michigan. The hill is sand and pretty much straight down. How that sand stays there
without going into the lake is a mystery to us. From the overlook we could see South Manitou island and the lighthouse. The
Maitime Museum was our next stop, then to the Cannery where they had many old boats on display. The General Store bought back
many memories. We drove to Leland, MI and checked on boat tours to South Manitou. We made reservations to spend
most of a day on the island.
July 30, 2008 Moved to Empire, MI to take in Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes National Lakeshore. The parks
cpgds were full and we are staying in Sleeping Bear cpgd and it is $36/night. Will be here 4 nights.
July 28, 2008 Pulled out of Charlotte, MI a went to Pines Point NF cpgd for 2 nights. While here
we toured and saw some lighthouses on Lake Michigan's west shore.
July 26, 2008 We never got up until 9:30a as we were still tired and hurting from sleeping
on the motel mattress. Sure love our Select Comfort Air mattress.
July 25 2008 Back to Spartan Chassis and they got the hose and the job finished afternoon. We decided
to stayed in overnight parking for the weekend. Judee and Tom got the coach finished late and left sometime after 5p. They
came by to say "Goodbye." Will be looking for them on the road.
July 24, 2008 Paid the repair bill $3206.90 and headed for Meijers to stock up on supplies and filled
with fuel. Checked for coolant leaks and there is a leak. While we were in the store the price of diesel fuel went down $.20.
Back to Spartan. They found a loose hose. Told them to put all new hoses on the cooling system as these hoses were 14 years
old. They didn't have one of the formed hoses and couldn't get it until in the morning. We had to stay in the Super 8 Motel
for the night. $76.31 which we thought was outrageous. They did furnish a do it your self breakfast. Waffles, bagels with
sour cream, jelly and butter, coffee & orange juice.
July 23, 2008 Up at 5:30a. Had a new radiator installed as the old one showed deterioration
in a corner at the bottom. Checked fan speed & it was excellent. Hopes this takes care of the over heating problem. Dave,
the guy that did the work said the coach should run much cooler now. It was late when they got the coach done so haven't got
the bill. Back to the overnight parking. Went out and ate dinner & supper. Met a couple of Escapees Judee and Tom and
taught us the basics of hand and foot which is a card game. We enjoyed them. They are fulltimers. 2 years on
a boat and then 2 years in a coach. Got back to overnight parking and checked for coolant leaks and there appears to be some
coolant on the bottom of the radiator.
July 22, 2008 Up at 5:30a, took the coach to the garage. Put all new brake lines, pads &
new Air Dryer filter, checked sway bars & steering parts for wear. Back to the over night parking. Went out and ate
dinner and supper.
July 21, 2008 Pulled out of Rob Roy, IN at 10:30a & headed for Charloette, MI & arrived
at Spartan Chassis at 4p. We are having some work done. Stayed at Spartan where they have a place to stay at no cost
with electric & a place to get water. You can dumped at the Eaton County Fairgrounds if you need. Went out & ate supper
July 14, 2008 Unloaded things. Pressured washed the horse trailer on the inside & the floor
mats. Took most of stuff out of the slide in camper. For supper went to the Fountain County Fair for a pork chop supper.
Walked around some & picked up the much needed "FREE" items.
July 11,12,13 2008 Claudia rode Myyadah around 25 miles & Charles rode Dixie around 15 miles.
Claudia rode all 3 days. Charles rode Friday morning & evening & Saturday morning. Dixie's front feet were
getting ouchy from all the rocks so on Saturday morning we put boots on her front feet & about 3/4 way through
the ride her left front boot came off. Claudia & Charles rode back & found the boot on dry level ground. We figured
she caught it with her back foot. Went a short distance & she pulled the other boot. Claudia & Charles finally made
it back to the campground after getting lost a couple of times. Dixie got to stay & rest & never went out again. Every
time Myyadah went out she thought she should go.
We left O'Bannon Woods State Park, IN around 5p Sunday. Stopped in Reddington, IN to visit
Charles's 98 year old Mother. We then went to Therese & Jeff's & dropped off Therese's horse Dixie, then had
KFC for supper. After eating we loaded Baskenel, Claudia's horse & got into Rob Roy, IN at 11:15p. Unloaded the horses,
took showers & headed for bed.
July 10, 2008 Left Rob Roy, IN at 2:45p & arrived at O'Bannon Woods State Park 8:45p. Did
get set up before dark. Ran the AC all night. The weather was on the warm side. Arrived for 3 days of horseback riding.
July 7 Charles washed & waxed Claudia's 90 Dodge Diesel sure looks great. Then washed the front
of the slid in camper.
July 5 Claudia, Coralie, & Charles & went horse back riding at Middle Fork Wildlife Area,
IL. The weather was great.
July 3 We have been working on Claudia's entrance to her basement garage & late this evening
we got a load of #8 limestone hauled in & the guy spread most of it. Charles took the Ford tractor a blade & leveled
it off somewhat. Sure looks much better & we hope this keeps the mud out of her basement.
July 2, 2008 We never went horseback riding last weekend as the rain was coming down until noon.
Claudia sleep hard & never got up until 3:30p. Coralie & Charles went to mass, called the Pizza Hut for a Pineapple
Deep Pan pizza. We went to the grocery & the Dollar Store. Went & picked up our pizza & it was ready. After we
got done eating we watched a video "The Crew".
June 21, 2008 Went into Attic, IN on the 20th & a station had diesel for $3.65, while the other
stations were asking $4.65. Filled the diesel truck & came back & got the other diesel & filled it. Today Claudia
& Charles were off to Middle Fork, IL for a 12.5 mile ride. It was a overcast day & when we came back to eat &
take a break it rained while we were setting at the picnic table. Finally moved in out of the rain. Wouldn't have gotten very
wet even if we stayed out. We got back to Rob Roy, IN at 7p. Coralie said that there was a hard short rain here at Claudia's
place.
June 7, 2008 Claudia & Charles off to Middle Fork Wildlife Area, IL. Boy it was hot & humid.
The horse were tired after about 8 miles & so was Charles. Have been doing a lot of errands & working with jobs using
the Ford tractor.
June 3, 2008 Started raining about 3am this morning & rained all day. Easily got over an inch.
Have been working on Claudia's horse trailer & getting it set up the way she wants. So was in the rain most of the day
with wet feet. Quit at 4pm & here came the sun. Are we not living right.
June 1, 2008 Was a beautiful day until 5pm & in a 1/2 hour we got .6" rain plus hail the size
of peas. We were heading for the vehicle when it started pouring. Went into Mr. B's for supper & it was still raining
when we got to the restaurant. Got inside & set down, the sun came out & stayed out until we went to Pamida's &
again on the way to the vehicle here come the rain. We have been getting our share of rain.
May 31, 2008 Claudia & Charles went over to Middle Fork Wildlife Area & rode horses for
a little over 3 hours. Rode a little over 10 miles. The riding trails were sloppy muddy. At one place there was a steep hill
& both of our horses slid clear to the bottom. No one had ridden this trail this year & we both knew why. All the
branches were flowing very strong so we went through a lot of water. Mud going into the streams & mud coming out. We were
both covered with mud on our legs. We had gotten an all night rain Friday night & it stopped this morning. Got over an
inch.
May 30, 2008 Beddles called & said the radiator was repaired. Cost $45 but gave the guy $5 for
doing it right away. Went to Case-IH & picked up some Fleetguard filters for our coach & our daughter's engines.
We both have Cummins engines & Fleetguard is the only filter that is superior to all others. Put the radiator back on
the tractor. We had the cowling off to paint it & it wasn't on at this time. Took it off to paint about 5 years ago. Don't
want to rush things. Now we are going to paint the cowling & reinstall.
May 29, 2008 Was stacking brush on our daughter's place with the 860 Ford tractor & ran a limb
into the radiator & the antifrreze started spraying everywhere. Most of it sprayed on the driver & boy is that antifreeze
sticky. Took the radiator into Williamsport, IN & they thought it could be repaired. Was glad to hear it might be repairable.
May 27, 2008 Unleaded $4.00, Diesel $4.90. Greed is the game. We had a great Memorial Weekend. We
did some horseback riding. Which is on our blogspot. Coralie & Charles have been on the very cool side most of the time
since we got here in Rob Roy, IN. We have a north wind & the chill factor is 47 degrees. Should have stayed in Yuma, AZ.
Most of the days have been overcast.
May 19, 2008 Mowed Claudia's yard, something that is not in our job duties very often, only when
we are in IN.
May 17, 2008 Moved the coach over where we will now have plugins for electricty for awhile. Something
we have to retrain for as we can now be a little wasteful. The price for Diesel fuel in Attica, IN $4.60. Unleaded gas
$3.85.
May 16, 2008 Got an early start & the weather was great. We made good time & pulled into
our daugther Claudia's place in Rob Roy, IN around 7p. Pulled in front of her barn & shut the coach down for the
night. Our price for diesel fuel went from $3.94 AZ, $4.24 & $4.28 TX, $4.40 MO, $4.60 IL, Never bought in IN, but
the price was $4.28.
May,15, 2008 Left Amarillo, TX & again was in the rain until we got into OK, but it was still
overcast. Stopped at a Flying J at Joplin, MO. Went in & chowed down. Spent the night here.
May 14, 2008 Left Deming, NM. Went by White Sands National Mounment. Got in some rain in the
mountains. Stopped in Amarillo, TX & spent the night in a rest stop with wifi.
May 10, 2008 Didn't get up until 9a. Scrubbed the roof on the coach. It was really dirty. Dust was
the problem. After being in the desert with no rain, mostly just sprinkles the dirt just stacks up. Now the windows and the
sides of the coach are dirty.
May 9, 2008 Pulled out of Southeast Diesel at 6:30a for a very, very, early start for us. The coach
performed great and the transmission shifted better than it has from the day we bought the coach. Got to Tucson and there
was an accident on the freeway so it was stop and go for at least a hour. Got to Deming, NM at 5p. We were both tired and
hit the hay at 9p.
May 8, 2008 The computer came in and it was installed by Slick. Took the coach for a test drive
and everything was working great. Paid the bill $3902.13.
We then went back to Southeast Diesel and dumped our holding tanks and filled with water. Talked
with David and told him the problem so he will know when that happens again. He said we could sped the night at his place.
what a great guy.
May 1, 2008 We are at Ramco in Yuma, AZ & they have determined the Computer for the Alison
transmission has gone bad. This is not a stock item so they have to build the computer. $3000. The part won't be here
until the middle of next week. We are parked in their lot with 50 amp service & water available. Sure hope this
fixes everything.
April 24, 2008 Installed a new ground wire according to where Mike O'Neal told us as the coach wouldn't
start this morning. Went to YPG for pizza & the movie "Juno". Cute but not anything great. Checked the coach & it
is looking more promising at 9:30p. Will know more tomorrow morning. Keeping our fingers crossed.
April 23, 2008 Called Spartan & talked with Mike O'Neal & he suggested checking the ohms
on the starter relay wire & also for voltage drop when trying to start. Southeast Diesel don't get to excited about things
& were are just laying back & taking it easy. Went to YPG to the movie "The Great Debaters". A great movie & took
place around 1935. Took place in TX. A true story about Blacks during that time.
April 22, 2008 Southeast Diesel figured how to make it start by bypassing & going direct. We
went to YPG to the movie & saw P.S. I Love You & thought the movie was great. We had a private showing as we were
the only ones in the theather.
April 19, 2008 Still at Southeast Diesel in Yuma. Still working on problem. Found a battery Thursday
that was not taking charge. Got a new battery. Charged up the system & it started Friday. This morning again the batteries
wouldn't start the engine. Checked & another battery had 2 bad cells. Isolated this battery & recharged for a couple
of hours. Engine started. Hope it starts tomorrow. Wal-Mart batteries.
While the batteries were charging we removed our slider valve stool & installed a ball
valve stool. It is a SeaLand 210. We had a stool like this years ago & really like the way it operated.
April 17, 2008 Coralie had to run into town and pickup some film we forgot to get yesterday. Got
ready to start the coach and no go. Thought it was the starter. Called for help and it turned out it was the batteries, were
very low. Got a jump start and went to Southeast Diesel for another problem. So now we are in the town of Yuma.
April 16 2008 Went into Yuma as Coralie had a Dr's. appointment. Everything was great at the Dr's.
We got all packed up and went and got water plus dumped holding tanks. We didn't park back in Kripple Kreek but went to Cozy
Cove instead for the night.
April 12, 2008 Went to 4 movies & walked out on 2 & watched 2. 27 Dresses was great comedy.
National Treasure, Book of Secrets was an action movie & had an excellent story. There are 2 units left in Kripple Kreek.
The weather has been outstanding, but has been on the windy side which helps keep it cool during the day & especially
at night.
Mad Money was hilarious, we laughed a lot. Saw it last Saturday.
April 5, 2008 We have been in town doing doctor's appointments. Been going to the movies at YPG,
saw Golden Compass, The Kite Runners, Sweeney Todd & why we set through these 3 movies one can only guess other than they
are FREE & the lounge chairs are very comfortable. The last movie was very good Charlie Wilson's War, but very foul mouthed
& some nudity. Going to see Mad Money this afternoon.
There 3 units left at Kripple Kreek. The weather is great, in the upper 80's to lower 90's with
nights in the 60's. We still are sleeping with many covers, but no heat for a good while. Our windows are open & we have
been having good breezes day & night.
March 30, 2008 A cool spell moved in this afternoon with wind. At 9:30p 64 degrees. We had our last
campfire this evening as there is no more wood. The 6 that were at the last fire were there plus Grace & Raymond from
Lonesome Ridge joined us. The wind was on the cool side while at the fire. Everything was burnt by 9p so we headed back
to our units. There are 6 units left here at Kripple Kreek.
March 26, 2008 Frank bought in more firewood that he picked up in Kripple Kreek. Had a campfire
& Frank, Carol, Keith, Gale, Coralie & Charles was at the fire. Started the fire around 7p & it broke up around
9:30p. The weather was great as some of us set around in our shorts & shirts.
March 23, 2008 Had a campfire & the weather was really great. The fire went from 7p to 9p. There
were 8 of us. Gale, Keith, Carol, Frank, Coralie, Charles & a couple from Zurich, Switzerland Fred & Sizzy. They are
on a 9 week tour of the west. They have a rented RV. Told us they rental company charged them $3/hour to run their generator.
So Fred is charging the batteries by running the motorhome engine. Smart thinking. This is the 5th year that they have come
to the southwest. Charles received an Easter card from his cousin in Germany that was written in German & he took it up
to Fred & he translated for him. Fred was walking around in a pair of shorts with a wet towel around head. Charles asked
what the towel was for & Fred said it was to keep his brain from frying. It was rather hot in the sun. The high for the
day 91 degrees.
March 20, 2008 Went into Yuma & did laundry. Coralie had a Dr's appointment with an ear, nose
& throat. There is lump in the throat & they are going to do a needle biospy. We then did some grocery shopping &
headed to Chili Verde Mexician Restaurant for an early supper. Great food & service. Hung up some clothes on the line
after we got home.
March 19, 2008 Charles built a campfire around 6:30p this evening & a good crowd showed up
& we finally closed things up at 9:30p. The weather was really nice. We solved a lot of world problems.
March 17, 2008 We went to the Gravel Pit shelter for a potluck Polish Sausage Feast which is
sausage & sourkraut which was furnished. There were around 70 of us there. Visited with Ray & Marylin from Rochester,
IN. They are leaving & heading for a Geocaching rally in Apache Junction, AZ on the 27th. We are putting on some weight
after all this food, so will need to lighten up for a few days.
March 16, 2008 Went to the Potluck at the church fellowship hall at YPG, again plenty of food. about
50 of us were there. We have this every 3rd Sunday.
This evening at 4p Charles started a campfire for our potato bake & weenie roast with
finger food. We all had a good time, again with plenty of food & the party broke up around 8:30p
March 12, 2008 We had a campfire this evening and 20 people were present. The BIG topic was a Diamondback
rattlesnake that appeared at Karen and Jim's trailer. Jim told us the snake was very agressive. He tried to take it to another
location but the snake wouldn't have nothing to do with being moved. No more snake. There are 15 units left at Kripple Kreek.
Arnett and Mic from Topeka, KS pullout tomorrow morning. We plan on moving to their spot after dumping our holding tanks and
filling up with fresh water.
Feb. 28, 2008 Coralie got up this morning and said that she was still groggy. She didn't
remember most of what happened yesterday afternoon. Coralie is finally back to her self this evening.
Feb. 27, 2008 We went into Yuma, AZ so Coralie could have an MRI of her head to see if they can
find some reason for her dizziness. Coralie took some drugs to make her drowsy as she doesn't like to be in close places.
Charles stayed in the room with her and boy are those MRI's noisey. It took a good half hour for the test. When they were
done she was so out of it that Charles took her out to the car in a wheelchair. She sleep on the way home. Put her in her
recliner at 3p and she was out until 6p. She ate some icecream and headed to bed at 7p.
Feb. 26, 2008 Went and picked our mail up at the Christian Center. Then over to YPG & got drinking
water for Coralie. Took a blueboy of gray water to the dump. Got water for the coach and filled the water tank. This evening
after supper we went to a campfire that George and Lydia from BC were having and there was a nice group. We talked about places
we have been and places we are planning on going. We left a 10p. Got up to 80 degrees with a light north wind.
Feb 25, 2008 We called Charles's Mother and sang her Happy Birthday as this is her 98th. She said
there was snow in IN and it was cold. She said She will be glad when spring gets here.
Feb. 22, 2008 Was a lousy day, only got to 67 degrees & was overcast with a slight wind. This
afternoon there was an "ALL DESSERT POTLUCK" at the Gravel Pit here at Imperial Dam. Charles went and ate over 3000 calories.
Hard to believe but there was not one pie. There were 40 people present. Bought back some choclate candy for Coralie.
Feb. 21, 2008 Another beautiful day. In the 70's with sunshine. We hungup clothes this morning to
dry on the clothesline. Our line is 50' and had 3 lines full. We had a campfire here at Kripple Kreek this evening. 16 of
us showed and had some good visits.
Feb. 20, 2008 Went into Yuma as Coralie had a doctor's appointment. She then had a ultra sound done
on her throat. Went to JB's for supper. Got groceries. Stopped and did 4 loads of laundry. Got back to the coach at 7p. Put
up the clothesline.
Feb. 17, 2008 Went to mass at YPG this morning. Came back home and fixed something for the Church
potluck at noon. There were about 50 at the potluck. When everyone had stuffed themselves there was food left over that could
have fed another 25 at least.
We enjoyed our visit with Raymond and "Amazing" Grace from MN as we ate with them. They are really
nice people. At 2p we are invited out for cake and ice cream in celebration of Donna & Steve Steveson Wedding Anniversary.
At This rate we should add a few pounds to our bodies.
Feb. 14, 2008 HAPPY VALENTINES DAY. We went into Ajo, AZ & picked up our mail
finally. Took 7 days for priority mail. We then pulled out & headed for Imperial Dam, Kripple Kreek area. It was windy
& cold when we got here. We then went to YPG for supper & had a veggie pizza, plus a big serving of no calorie icecream,
impossible, but thought we would try.
Feb. 12, 2008 We gathered around the campfire for egg in a bag with all the trimmings. Around 30
boondockers attended. The weather was beautiful with a sunny sky. Shirt sleeve weather.
Went in Ajo to pick up our mail and take some pictures of the Ajo Copper Mine and some other sights.
Feb.11, 2008 We went into Ajo & picked up our mail. Didn't get it all but the rest should be
here tomorrow. The weather the last 4 days has been great. Been wearing shorts & tank tops.
Feb. 10, 2008 Had a potato bake this evening at the campfire at 4p. About 30 of us showed up. Again
plenty of food. We went away stuffed.
Feb. 8, 2008 Ajo, AZ Had a potluck breakfast this morning at 10a. Food to galore & everyone
had a great time. This was our 1st potluck breakfast for this Boondocker group. Everyone said let's do it again
Feb. 6, 2008 Ajo, AZ Wokeup to 27 degrees, but did get to shirt sleeve weather during the day. Cowboy
coffee every morning but we don't get up in time. Doc Shoemaker's 69th birthday. Had a big party at 4p. There were about 75
Escapee Boondockers present. Have you ever had that big of gathering for your birthday? We sang Happy Birthday. We had 20
large Pizzas, beer, & pop. Within a hour all the pizza was gone, but still had drinks. Doc bought it all which was was
what we all like. "FREE"
Went to the campfire in the evening.
Feb. 5, 2008 Pulled out of Quartzsite & headed for Ajo, AZ. About 30 units here for the Boondocker
Rendezvous. Went to Happy Hour & then to the nightly campfire.
Jan. 18, 2008 We left Kripple Kreek at 11:30a & headed for Quartzsite, AZ. Got here around 1:15p.
Spent a couple of hours raking an old fire pit picking up all the nails. It was right outside our door. The weather required
a sweat shirt & long pants, but the sun was nice & bright.
The BIG TENT is up for Manufacture Week wihich starts tomorrow morning. If you can't find it here
for your RV you don't need it. This lasts until next Sunday the 27th. We are parked close enough that we can walk to everything.
There are over 100 acres of items, plus many people. We will enjoy.
Anyone who owns an RV & hasn't been to Quarzsite for this event is not a RVer.
Dec. 25, 2007 MERRY CHRISTMAS. We had a gathering at YPG chapel & there were about
100 people present.
This gathering was supposed to take place here at Kripple Kreek but we had strong
winds of gusts of up to 70MPH so they say. That made it impossible for us & the surrounding ares to eat outside.
The different areas Hurricane Ridge, Quail Hill, Cozy Cove, South Mesa, Floridia Flats, Gravel Pit, Bee Hive Mesa & Boat
Ramp joined with us for our Christmas celebration inside the chapel. A great time was had & there was enough food for
300 people.
Dec. 17, 2007 Had a campfire here at Kripple Kreek & around 25 attended. Fixed hot dogs, marshmellows
& finger food. We set around the fire & discussed many issues & our travels. Everyone enjoys the fires &
the moonlit nights. Coralie was still feeling bad & didn't attend.
Dec. 16, 2007 Charles went to church at YPG & afterwards there was a potluck &
about 50 people attended. The food again was outstanding. Had 2 helpings of dessert.
Coralie had a very bad head cold & was unable to attend.
Dec. 14, 2007 Boy it's been awhile. We have been busy with Dr. appointments & still have some
followups.
Coralie has had some dizzness so they are going to check some blood vessels in her throat.
Charles has blurred vision & high pressure in his left eye. The blurred vision will take about
30 seconds to fix. The pressure is another thing as they think it could be the early stage of glacouma.
Coralie is laid up with a bad head cold. Charles just got over a slight head cold.
The weather has been on the cold side here for us as it is staying in the low 60's during the day
& getting down to the low 40's at night. We seem to have a north wind most days. Where are those upper 70's to lower 80's
like we use to have.
Dec. 4, 1996 we went fulltime RVing it sure doesn't seem that long. What a GREAT LIFE & the
things we have seen.
Nov. 22, 2007 THANKSGIVING DAY. We left our coach to join 3 other couples at YPG Cactus Club for
dinner. Had a good meal. Afterwards we went to 1 of the couples place and set outside & talked until 5p. The weather was
on the chilly side as it only got up to 72, but was sunny. We both had on long pants with a sweat shirt. We're pansys.
Nov. 18, 2007 Went to YPG Chapel for a bringing together of the persons who attend church to celebrate
Thanksgiving. Had food a plenty. We all stuff ourselves. One of our friends couldn't made it as she went to the hospital tuesday.
She had surgery. There was a good group there and would guess over 50. We talked with some from WY, TX, NY and OR. Needless
to say we never had to eat supper as we are still full.
Nov. 16, 2007 We went to YPG Chapel to listen to Oscar Chavez & family concert. The crowd
was small. It lasted 1 1/2 hours & was very good. Had refreshments with drinks, dessert, finger food
& pizza. We stuff ourselves.
Nov. 11, 2007 Went to mass at YPG. Had coffee after church. We are getting more people each week as
the retirees are rolling into Imperial Dam, LTVA.
Grace & Raymond from MN came over this afternoon. Raymond is a retired farmer so we kicked
a few clods around & had a great visit. They have been coming to this area for a very long time, like 25 years plus. They
have seen the changes. Like for years it was FREE, then $25, $50, $100, $140 and now $180. Nothing really different other
than the BLM employees driving new 4WD vechiles.
We had another great day as it was shorts weather for us as we set in the sun.
Nov. 10, 2007 Have been to Yuma a few times. Got Dr's appointments
set up for this & next month.
The weather yesterday was cold for us as it only got up to 77 & was overcast. Today it's 74
at 1p but very sunny so when you are outside it feels great.
We had visitors, 2 grown donkeys & a youngster. They act like they own the place.:)
Went over to Yuma Proving Grounds(YPG) to see what was on at the movies. They were "R" rated so
didn't watch any. Charles ate a dish of ice cream while Coralie watched.
The movies are FREE, what we retirees like to see & hear.
Nov. 4, 2007 Went to mass at Yuma Proving Grounds, US Army base. Aftert mass we went to a room &
had coffee & visited with Raymond & Grace from MN. He has been coming south for 31 years. He was a farmer so he could
do the winters in the south.
Nov. 3, 2007 We went to town & it has been over 2 weeks since we have been to a grocery store
& the cupboards were very, very bare. Needless to say after $365 we are now well stocked. While in Yuma we did
4 loads of laundry. Pretty well shot the day.
Oct. 30, 2007 Donna Scheller sent us an email saying Charles's Aunt Irene passed away. She would
have been 97 in Nov. Charles's Mother, who is 97, & her were good friends. She was my Dad's sister & was the
last in his family to go.
Oct. 29, 2007 Coralie is having some kidney stone problems & is trying to take it easy. Went
over to Hidden Shores & got her some ice cream.
Oct. 26, 2007 Went over to the Christian Service Center & signed up for our mail to be forwarded
there. We are about 3 miles from there. A donkey came & visited us at the coach.
Oct. 25, 2007, Got a lift pump installed. There was nothing wrong with the old one but with over
100,000 miles on the coach why take a chance. If this pump goes out generally there goes the injector pump. BIG DOLLARS!!!
Got everything taken care of & headed for Kripple Kreek, LTVA, Imperial Dam in CA. Where we are parked is about 20 miles
north of the city of Yuma, AZ. We are located just off of Imperial County highway 24. Our Winter home.
Oct. 24, 2007, Left Casa Grande & headed for Yuma, AZ. Stopped at Southeast garage to have some
worked done on the coach. Sp;ent the night in their parking lot.

Oct. 20, 2007 Drove to Palomas, Mexico & ate
dinner at the Pink Store. Walked around town for awhile. Stopped in Columbus, NM on the way back & went into the old Railroad
Depot which has alot of history about the town. Columbus is where Pancho Villa came in & attacked. They now have a state
park named after him. Go figure only in the USA. We got back to Deming around 5p. Did laundry then stopped at the Dairy Queen
for our icecream fix.
Oct. 18, 2007 We visited with Fred & Rhoda Lewis & some of their family. They are from MI
& have now settled in Deming, NM. Rhoda had fixed soup & homemade rolls & everything was delicous. We had met
Fred many years ago at a IBMC ralley when we were motorcycling.
Oct. 16, 2007 Still working on cleaning the coach so we can get to Yuma. Fred Lewis came
& visited this afternoon.
Oct. 14, 2007 Washed the coach. Had more wind but the temparture was in the upper 70's.

just about 1/4 mile from town. We had no phone, TV or radio here, but the Campground is FREE.
Oct.2, 2007 Pulled out of Datil Wells campground & drove about 1 mile to Datil that has hookups
as the sun hadn't been to good of job keeping our batteries charged.
Oct. 1, 2007 We went for a 3 mile hike this afternoon & the visitas were great as we were overlooking
the San Agustin & Crosby Caynon Valleys
Sept. 30, 2007 Went for a drive west on NM12 to NM32 to US60 back to the campground. NM32 what a
great highway as the scenery is great.
Sept. 28 & 29, 2007 Laid on the 28th. On the 29th went to the VLA & toured the grounds &
building. Really very impressive & technical.
Sept. 27, 2007 Went to Chloride, Kelly & Magdalene. While in Chloride we had a flat tire on

are west of I25 on US60 about 60 miles. We are staying at Datil Wells Recreation Area about a mile west of Datil. The cost
is $2:50/night. They have water & pit toilets. Very nice campground. This is a BLM area.
Sept. 22, 2007 Charles left the coach at 10a & went to Kasha-Katuwe Tent
Rocks National Monument. Hiked 5 miles up 622 ft. in elevation. The climb was hard in places. The view at the top was beautiful.
The rocks have a tent shape on top like it is protceting the rest of the rock. Got back at 1p, needless to say once is enough.
Sept. 11, 2007 Pulled out of Brush, CO & went to the Great Sand Dunes at Mocas,
CO. While there we visited Fort Garland & San Luis, CO. Sept 17, we left the Dunes & went to Elk Creek Nat. Forest
campground just west of Horca, CO. While here we had a temparture of 27 degrees one morning. Frost on the pumpkin. Sept.
18 we went to Antonito, CO & rode the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad to Osier, CO & back. On the 19th We went
to Chama, NM & rode the train to Osier, CO & back. Both rides were great but we enjoyed the Chama ride the best. The train
engines are steam driven. We enjoyed listening to the engines when pulling the 4% grade, they had to use two steam
locomotives. We had two beautiful days for our rides. Left Elk Creek on the 20th & drove to Cochiti Lake COE campground
which is located south & west of Santa Fe, NM on NM22.
Sept. 8, We are now at the City of Bursh, CO park where they have a small campground.
